I ❤️ Langbourn?
The word cloud comes from research carried out on the streets of Langbourn Ward in September 2023. Those who’ve worked here for a long time love its rich history and the links with Roman Londinium, Charles Dickens and the Coffee Houses. It remains a place where ideas are discussed and deals are struck over a drink.

Unique in bordering eight other Wards, Langbourn has for centuries been home to bankers, insurers, merchants, goldsmiths and other trades. The Ward is reputedly named after a buried stream in the vicinity, detailed in Stowe’s 1598 Survey of London.
St Mary Woolnoth on the corner of Lombard Street and King William Street is the Ward Church… It is a small Ward; a long thin area, running in a west-east direction. It also encompasses a large area of that Jewel of the City, Leadenhall Market, the original site of the Roman Forum (or marketplace) in Londinium.
With the rise in the popularity of Coffee Houses in the 17th Century it is remarkable that there were fifteen of these meeting places in Langbourn Ward, the most notable being close to the corner of Abchurch Lane originally owned by Mr Edward Lloyd, a vestryman of the Church of St Mary Woolnoth, who was to give his name to the Lloyd’s of London insurance market.

What is an Alderman?
Each of the twenty-five wards in the City of London elects one Alderman. Together, they form the Court of Aldermen. Their role is to encourage trade, champion standards, build skills in the workforce and promote the City as an attractive place to live and do business.
Aldermen also sit on the Court of Common Council which is responsible for the overall policies and resources of the City Corporation, and sets its multi-year strategy and plans. Many Aldermen have a financial or professional services background and are well-placed to develop further the City’s relations with this key sector.
Each year, the Lord Mayor is elected from amongst the Aldermen - and those looking to stand for the mayoralty will first need to be elected as an Alderman.

Why would you vote for Sally?
Sally is standing for election as Alderman in the Ward of Langbourn in the poll on 2nd November 2023. If you have a vote, the City of London electoral team will have been in touch.
The ward is a wonderful place to work. Sally believes that if those who work here knew more about what the ward and the City of London can offer, they’d want to spend more time here. Which can only be good for local businesses.
If elected, she is committed to working hard to make everyone proud of your ward and your Alderman.
